Non-local Jaish militant Anwar killed in South Kashmir’s Tral: Police

Srinagar: A cordon and search operation was launched today by Police and forces in Dar-Ganiegund area of Tral in Awantipora based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a Police spokesman said.

As the search operation was going on, hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, he said.

In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter, the spokesman said.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter, the spokesman said.

From the incriminating materials recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani identified as Anwar who was affiliated with militant outfit JeM, the spokesman said.

He was involved in attacks on security establishments and other civilian atrocities in the area, the spokesman claimed.

Moreover, one policeman also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention, he said.

He is stated to be stable, the spokesman said.

Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter, the spokesman said.

Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials, he said.

People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any, the spokesman added.
