05 Chronic Drug Peddlers Booked Under PIT NDPS Act In Kulgam, Shifted to Jail: Police

Police on Saturday said that five drug peddlers were booked under The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

In a handout issued, the police said that in its continuous offensive against Drug Peddling and its propagators, to eradicate the menace of drugs completely from the society, 05 chronic offenders & Notorious drug Peddlers namely Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh son of Asadullah Sheikh resident of Ahmadabad, DH Pora, Tariq Ahmad Lone son of Mohd Ramzan Lone resident of Tungdunoo Yaripora, Sajad Ahmad Baghat son of Ghulam Hassan Baghat resident of Kokergund, Yaripora, Barkatullah Mir son of Mohammad Abdullah Mir resident of Bachroo Kulgam and Aijaz Ahmad Ganie son of Late Ghulam Ahmad Ganie resident of Gadihama, Kulgam involved in Drug Peddling have been detained under The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act under the orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. Three of these drug pedllers have been lodged in District Jail Baderwah & Two of them, Barkatullah Mir and Aijaz Ahmad Ganie are lodged in District Jail Rajouri to prevent them from recycling again in Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

The police spokesman further stated that it is pertinent to mention that under the provisions of Sec 3 of PIT NDPS Act 1988, a person engaged in Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances , which poses a serious threat to the health of a person and Society can be detained upto maximum period of one year and can be extended.

Kulgam Police has busted several Narcotic & Narco-Terror Modules and have arrested many notorious Drug peddlers in different NDPS cases during this year, he said.

Kulgam Police is committed to continue it’s war against the Drug menace and sought co-operation of people in eradicating social evils especially drug abuse to save the youth from this fatal addiction who are the future of the nation, reads the statement.(GNS)
