The 21st National Neuro Pedicon 2022 conference began on Saturday at SKICC Srinagar in which neurologists from prestigious institutions across India are participating to share their experience with doctors of Kashmir.

Dr Muzzafar Jan Professor and head of Department of Paediatrics GMC Srinagar in his welcome speech, as per the news agency that Neurological diseases are very common in children and “we need to keep ourselves updated and that this conference is being held here after 33 years.

He said that conferences and workshops become means to share ideas and experiences and he expressed hope that in the next two days they will be able to gain much experience from renowned doctors attending the conference.

“Neurological problems are very common in children and 10-15 percent of hospital admissions have neurological issues,” he said,, adding that they have tried to accommodate most of the neurological disorders.

He thanked government for upgrading pediatric section of GMC Srinagar from 250 bed GB Panth to 500 bedded super speciality hospital Bemina, which will be functional in a weeks time.

“We are also planning to make a paediatric super speciality training institute and in next 10-15 years, we shall have trained pediatric super specialists in every nook and corner of J&K,” he said.

He also said that the infant mortality rate has gone from from 32.4 in 2015 to 16.3 in 2020 and for the first time in the last five decades Neonatal mortality rate has touched single digit which is 9.8 now—(KNO)
