Kupwara : In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman gave birth on the road in the remote Chontiwari Machil area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Due to heavy snowfall and the risk of landslides, the district administration had closed the roads for traffic movement, making it difficult for emergency services to reach the area.

According to local residents, the road closure delayed the arrival of medical help for the pregnant woman. However, officials at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Dudi Machil confirmed that an ambulance was dispatched immediately after being notified about the emergency. The ambulance managed to transport the woman and her newborn to the hospital for treatment, and both the mother and child were reported to be in stable condition.

Following the incident, MLA Lolab, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, took immediate cognizance and raised the matter with higher authorities. In response, the District Health and Social Welfare Department (DHSK) has ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the incident and submit a report within two days.

MLA Lolab expressed his deep concern and emphasized that such incidents should never happen again in the future. He also urged the district administration to ensure that roads in Machil and other remote areas are kept open for traffic to avoid any future difficulties for residents, especially in emergencies.

*The MLA stressed that better preparedness is needed to safeguard the health and well-being of people in far-off areas like Machil*.
