KULGAM : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan today conducted an extensive visit to the District Fish Farm Chancer to review the operations and achievements of the facility.
The DC also took a comprehensive assessment of the breeding processes of Rainbow Trout and reviewed the implementation of various stages involved in the breeding cycle.
During the visit, it was informed that the unit produces approximately 6 lakh advanced Trout Fish seeds annually. These seeds fulfill the requirements of both public and private fish farming units in the district.
The district is recognized as a hub of fish production, boasting an annual yield of 200 metric tons from around 155 government and private fish farms.
It is worth mentioning that District Kulgam has recently been declared and awarded by GoI, as the best district in the Union Territories (UTs) of India in the fisheries sector.
This accolade highlights the district’s remarkable achievements in infrastructure development and high-quality fish production, facilitated through the effective implementation of flagship schemes like Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).
Accompanying the DC were ADDC Bashir Ahmad Wani, ADC, Viqar Ahmad Giri, AD Fisheries and other officers.
