The opening session was graced by Dr. M. Maqbool Rather, who delivered a compelling welcome address highlighting the importance of empowering women to achieve SDGs. The programme is convened by Dr. Megna Rashid Bakshi, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, who is spearheading the initiative with a vision to empower rural women through knowledge and skill-building.

This week-long training will impart advanced expertise in agroforestry practices, including modules on agroforestry systems, tree improvement techniques, and forest management strategies. With a special emphasis on empowering indigenous women, the programme aims to position them as key stakeholders in agroforestry and decision-making processes, ultimately improving their livelihoods.

The Faculty of Forestry at SKUAST-K envisions this initiative as a cornerstone for fostering rural women’s socio-economic development. By promoting sustainable agroforestry practices, the programme aspires to empower women to actively participate in India’s journey toward gender equality and sustainability.

Dr. Megna Rashid Bakshi, in her closing remarks, extended heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. N.A. Ganie, Director of Planning and Monitoring Prof. H.R. Naik, Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Prof. S.A. Gangoo, and Head of Division Prof. G.M. Bhat for their unwavering support and guidance. She also expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, for generously sponsoring the programme.

This pioneering initiative underscores SKUAST-K’s dedication to advancing women’s empowerment and sustainable development through targeted training and capacity-building efforts in agroforestry.
