Handwara Police Seizes Vehicle of Notorious Drug Peddler Worth Rs 10.5 Lacs

Handwara : In a major move against drug trafficking, Handwara Police seized a Hyundai Venue (registration number JK01AT/4651) worth Rs 10.5 lakh, allegedly bought using proceeds from illicit drug trafficking activities. The vehicle, belonging to notorious drug peddler Javeed Ahmad Sofi, son of Ab Razzak Sofi from Khunbal, Handwara, District Kupwara, was attached as part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace.

The action was taken under Section 68(f)(1) of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked to several drug-related cases, including FIR No. 193/2024, FIR No. 266/2022, and FIR No. 101/2018, all under various sections of the NDPS Act. During the investigation, the vehicle was identified as an illegally acquired property, purchased from the proceeds of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the region. A statement highlighted the continued strict actions against individuals involved in such illegal activities to safeguard the youth and build a drug-free society. Local communities have supported the police’s efforts in curbing drug trafficking.
