Kupwara Police Apprehended Individual with Contraband Substance

KUPWARA : In a significant achievement in the fight against drug menace, the Police Party of Police Station Kupwara apprehended a suspicious individual during naka duty at Batergam near the petrol pump.

During routine naka checking, a motorcycle bearing Registration No. JK05D-5529, travelling towards Trehgam, was stopped for checking. However, the rider attempted to flee from the spot. Demonstrating alertness the police party tactfully stopped the motorcycle.
Upon initial questioning, the rider identified himself as Mohd Anwar Raina, son of Mohd Israiel Raina, resident of Amroohi, Karnah, Kupwara. A thorough personal search lead to the recovery of brown sugar-like substance weighing approximately 14 grams.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was allegedly carrying the contraband substance to promote drug abuse among the youth of Kupwara, posing a serious threat to the well-being of the society.
An FIR, No. 289/2024,U/S 8/21 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Kupwara, and further investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the network associated with this illegal activity.
