Adhik Kadam’s journey from Pune, Maharashtra, to the conflict-ridden Kashmir Valley in 1997 is nothing short of extraordinary. At a time when militancy was at its peak in the region, Kadam was moved by the plight of the voiceless daughters and sisters who had become innocent victims of the long-standing conflict. The suffering and pain of these young girls, orphaned and often left without a future, ignited a burning desire in Kadam to make a difference.
With a heart full of empathy and a mind determined to create change, Adhik Kadam founded the Borderless World Foundation, an NGO dedicated to the welfare of Kashmiri orphan girls. His journey was not easy. At the time, the region was gripped by violence, and it was extremely difficult to establish any form of social work, let alone an orphanage. Yet, Adhik’s vision was clear — he would not turn a blind eye to the suffering of these girls. No matter the challenges or the risks, he knew he had to act.
Starting with a small branch in the district of Kupwara, Kadam began the arduous task of rebuilding the lives of these young girls. His work went far beyond providing basic shelter and food. He focused on giving them a future — one filled with education, opportunities, and the hope of a better life. The journey was filled with hardships, including limited resources, security concerns, and emotional tolls, but Kadam’s unwavering commitment to the cause kept him going.
Over time, the impact of his efforts began to grow. What started as one orphanage in Kupwara soon expanded across Jammu & Kashmir and even to Ladakh. The Borderless World Foundation became a beacon of hope for countless orphaned girls. It became a place where these girls not only found safety but also nurtured their potential and aspirations.
Today, many of these girls have become change-makers. They are advocates, lawyers, doctors, engineers, journalists, and social leaders — a testament to the transformative power of education and support. Through Adhik’s dedication and foresight, these young women are not only shaping their own futures but also the future of their families and communities.
In recognition of his immense contribution to social change, Adhik Kadam was awarded India’s Best Social Change Award 2024 by CNN News 18. This prestigious award reflects his tireless work, vision, and the lives he has touched through his unwavering commitment to the empowerment of Kashmiri orphan girls.
Adhik Kadam’s story is a powerful reminder that one person can indeed make a difference. His struggle, dedication, and visionary approach have brought hope and light to many young lives in Kashmir, and today, those girls stand as pillars of a new and brighter future.
