District Administration Kupwara conducts “Sugamya Yatra 2025”

KUPWARA : District Administration Kupwara today conducted “Sugamya Yatra 2025” across the district to raise awareness and sensitivity among the masses towards the accessibility of specially abled persons. “Sugamya Yatra 2025” is a special initiative aimed at creating awareness regarding accessibility challenges faced by Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

The main Yatra event was held at D.C Office Complex Kupwara which was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara, Mohd Rouf Rehman. The event which saw participation of large number of stakeholders including District officers and employees was collaborated with Department of Social Welfare, Health and Education departments.
Speaking at the occasion, the ADC said that the aim of holding the “Sugamya Yatra 2025” is to raise mass awareness about the accessibility challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities and to sensitize stakeholders about their responsibilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016 and Constitution of India. He impressed upon the officers and employees to visit key public places including government offices, educational institutions and healthcare centers to assess the accessibility for the PWDs. He directed them to take feedback from the PWDs about their problems and challenges facing them while getting services to foster improvements in accessibility across public infrastructure.
On the occasion, the ADC along with CMO, DSWO and other functionaries visited different offices including Election Office, CEO Office and others and assessed the accessibility measures.
Meanwhile, “Sugamya Yatra” was also conducted in sub divisions of Handwara, Lolab and Karnah during which the teams of officers and officials visited various public offices, health and educational institutions to assess the facilities for PWDs.
Earlier, orders were issued by the District Administration under which teams of officers/officials were constituted for conduct of the “Sugamya Yatra”. The teams were assigned various Governments offices, Banks, Hospitals, Police Stations and Bus Stands to check the accessibility for the specially abled persons.
