Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station Handwara, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), seized six tractors involved in illegal mineral extraction. Additionally, a team from Police Post Langate apprehended four tractors engaged in similar illegal activities.

The vehicles have been challaned under the relevant sections of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMRD Act), and legal proceedings have been initiated against the vehicle owners and drivers.

This operation was carried out in close coordination with the Geology and Mining Department as part of an ongoing effort to curb illegal mining and safeguard the region’s natural resources. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against individuals involved in activities that harm the environment and pose health risks to local communities.

Handwara Police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any such illegal activities by dialing 112. They assured that strict legal action would be taken against those violating mining regulations.

This operation signifies a strong stance by Handwara Police in combating illegal mineral extraction and preserving the region’s ecological balance.
