Srinagar : After nearly a week-long wet spell, bright sunshine greeted people in Kashmir on Monday.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the weather will generally remain dry till March 26 with a chance of light snow over isolated higher reaches on the night of March 19.
There are chances of a fresh spell of light rain and snow over higher reaches likely during March 27 and 28, it said.
The MeT office has also advised farmers to resume their normal farm operations and cautioned the travellers and tourists to follow the admin traffic advisory before taking any journey.
Amid recent heavy snowfall, it has also asked people living in the upper reaches of the Kashmir Valley to avoid venturing over sloppy and avalanche-prone areas.
Bright sun appeared on Monday with tourists venturing out in Shikaras in the iconic Dal Lake for a ride to experience nature’s glory.
The day temperatures dropped by 1 to 8°C in the Kashmir Division, with Kupwara recorded at 12.1°C and Srinagar 12.2°C, remaining the highest among other stations on Sunday.
The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday witnessed a rise and decreased by 1 to 2°C in the Kashmir Division at many places, with the lowest -5.0°C recorded at the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag recorded a low of -0.3°C, while Srinagar recorded a low of 3.8°C, and this was 1.2°C below the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season, the MeT office said. (Agencies)
