Kupwara : In a significant outreach initiative aimed at spreading awareness on key labour-related issues, the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Kupwara on friday conducted an extensive awareness camp in the remote hinterlands of Handwara town and its adjoining areas, including Bhavan, Yamlar, Chanzmulla, Wader, and Zachildara.
The camp was primarily focused on sensitizing the local population about the Jammu & Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers (JKBOCW) Welfare Scheme, and pressing issues such as child labour and child marriage. The initiative witnessed a massive response as residents turned up in large numbers, reflecting growing interest and awareness in these important matters.
During the event, on-spot services were provided for the registration and renewal of labour cards, easing the process for workers in these far-flung areas. Additionally, participants were educated about registration as gig and platform workers, opening new avenues for formal engagement in the evolving labour market.
The outreach program marks a meaningful step in bridging the information gap and ensuring the benefits of labour welfare schemes reach every corner of the district.
