Seminar on Medicinal Plants Held in Kupwara to Promote Employment Opportunities

Kupwara : The Directorate of AYUSH, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Department of AYUSH Kupwara, in collaboration with the District Administration Kupwara, today organized a one-day seminar at Town Hall Kupwara titled “Promoting Medicinal Plant Sector as an Alternative Source of Employment in the UT of J&K.”

The seminar aimed to explore the untapped potential of the medicinal plant sector as a sustainable and profitable livelihood avenue in the region. More than 100 farmers, along with budding entrepreneurs, representatives from the herbal industry, and government officials, actively participated in the event.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while DFO Kamraj Anurag Arya attended as the Guest of Honour, alongside other dignitaries. Both commended the initiative for its significant role in empowering rural communities and promoting self-reliant employment generation.

Dr. Waheed, Technical Officer at the J&K Medicinal Plants Board, Srinagar, shared expert insights on scientific cultivation methods, market access, and government support schemes designed to promote medicinal plant farming across the region.

Dr. Ayoub Marzai served as the Dice Incharge, while the District AYUSH Officer Kupwara delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of grassroots-level awareness and capacity-building programs to boost local participation.

Dr. Mudasir, Deputy Director of RCFC, SKUAST-K, presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation on Ayurvedic medicine and the commercial as well as therapeutic significance of medicinal plants.

The seminar concluded with an engaging interactive session, allowing participants to interact directly with experts, clarify doubts, and gain practical knowledge to initiate entrepreneurial ventures in the medicinal plant sector.

The program was meticulously organized by Dr. Mohammad Ayoub Marazi, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Suhail Nazir, Dr. Hakeem Tariq, and Dr. Zahoor A.H. Tantray, whose collective efforts ensured the seminar’s success and smooth execution.
