Kupwara : In line with the recent guidelines issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case Society for Enlightenment and Voluntary Action & Anr. vs Union of India & Ors. (2004 SC), which emphasizes a collective, community-driven approach focusing on prevention before protection and protection before penalization, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Kupwara organized a comprehensive awareness programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Hayhama.
The initiative, held in collaboration with Government Boys Higher Secondary School Halmatpora, was conducted under the direction of the Worthy Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and aimed at sensitizing students and staff on vital child protection legislations and constitutional rights.
The programme was graced by the presence of Mr. Gulzar Ahmad, DySP Kupwara, along with officers from the Juvenile Police Unit. He provided a detailed explanation of the procedures related to Zero FIR and Electronic FIR registration, highlighting law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring child safety.
Key speakers included Mr. Mohd Rafi Shah from CWC Kupwara, who systematically educated the audience about key provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Miss Sadaf, a case worker from ChildLine Kupwara, and Mr. Tauseef from the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) also participated and shared insights into the support mechanisms available for children in distress.
The Principal and Vice Principal of HSS Hayhama addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of awareness about legal and constitutional rights, especially in a democratic society. They extended their gratitude to all dignitaries and participants for their active involvement in making the event a success.
The event served as a meaningful platform to educate, engage, and empower students and educators alike, reinforcing the collective responsibility toward child protection and welfare.
