DLSA, Budgam organizes awareness programme

BUDGAM : In run up to the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking’ to be observed on 26th June, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam today organized an awareness programme for Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) at Legal Literacy Club Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam.
During the programme, awareness was created on drug laws, their social impact, and the legal actions available for those affected by drug abuse or illicit trafficking.
The programme was also aimed to raise awareness on the legal rights of individuals involved in substance abuse, focusing on rehabilitation & legal measures to prevent trafficking and combating drug abuse, including policies related to preventing, treatment and the rights of individuals in recovery.
The event was conducted under the supervision of O.P. Bhagat, Chairman, DLSA Budgam and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam.
During the event Nazir Ahmad Wagay, Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Budgam, emphasized the importance of protecting and empowering vulnerable children in our society. He highlighted that children represent innocence, potential and the future, and how we treat them reflects our respect for human dignity, commitment to equality, and readiness to build a better future.
He also spoke on the legal framework in India to protect and empower vulnerable children, including the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Act, 2019, POCSO Act, 2012, and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
He also highlighted available remedies for children in need, including the Child Welfare Committee, District Child Protection Unit, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), State Commission, and Childline Helpline (1098).
The program provided a platform for children to learn about their rights and the legal recourse available to them. Students, teachers, LSUC members and PLV’s of DLSA Budgam actively participated in the discussions and deliberations.
