At approximately 1900 hours, a police party was conducting routine checks at Geer Hachi checkpoint in Kupwara. During the naka, a two-wheeler (Scooty Reg No. JK01W1732), driven by one Firdous Ahmad Wani, son of Nazir Ahmad Wani, resident of Panzgam, Kralpora, Kupwara, was intercepted while coming from Zangli towards Kupwara.

During the search, 12 bottles of alcohol were recovered from the vehicle. Upon being questioned, the individual initially tried to mislead the naka party by falsely identifying himself as a police official named “Zakir.” However, upon further sustained interrogation, his real identity was established, and it was revealed that he was falsely impersonating as a member of the police to facilitate and cover up his illegal activities.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was habitually engaged in the unlawful trade of liquor in the area, using deceitful means to avoid detection.

Accordingly, a case has been registered at Kupwara Police Station under FIR No. 179/2025 U/S 50 Excise Act and 319(2) BNS. Further investigation is underway.
