DC B’la reviews road safety measures; stresses inter-departmental coordination for safer roads

BARAMULLA : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review the implementation of road safety measures and traffic regulations in the district.
The meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, OC Beacon, DFO JV Division, ARTO, CMO and officers from R&B, BRO, and other stakeholder departments.
During the meeting, DC reviewed various aspects of road safety, including accident response protocols, black spot identification and rectification besides traffic management across the district.
DC directed the concerned departments to ensure immediate repair of the Sopore Bridge, and called for strict monitoring to prevent underage and school children from using two-wheelers.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was instructed to ensure that in case of any road accident, the nearest ambulance should respond without delay to minimize fatalities.
SSP emphasized the need to equip police vehicles with trauma kits to serve as first responders, particularly along the National Highway.
DC assured that the administration will facilitate the provision of trauma kits at the earliest.
To ensure road safety awareness, ARTO informed the meeting that regular awareness drives are being conducted and that activities under Road Safety Month will continue to educate the public.
Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) and Traffic Police were directed to intensify the publicity of revised traffic penalties and rules to ensure compliance among commuters.
To enhance night-time visibility and reduce accident risk, DC instructed the R&B and BRO departments to install proper traffic signage and reflectors on road dividers. Additionally, Minga Sherpa directed the concerned departments to expedite the installation of street lights along the National Highway and other major roads.
Instructions were also passed for the removal of electric and telecommunication poles posing safety hazards along roadsides.
DC stressed the need for inter-departmental coordination and timely execution of safety measures to safeguard the lives of citizens and improve road conditions across the district.
