SONAMARG : Labour Commissioner, S. Charandeep Singh, today conducted a field visit to Sonamarg to review the ongoing registration of service providers for Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) 2025.
He inspected the labour welfare measures at major infrastructure sites, including the Zojila and Z-Morh Tunnels.
At the SANJY Registration Camp in Sonamarg, the Labour Commissioner interacted with the service providers and reviewed the registration process being facilitated by the Labour Department. He directed the Nodal Officer (Assistant Labour Commissioner, Ganderbal) to ensure that registration of all the service providers is carried out in a smooth, efficient and hassle-free manner. He emphasized timely issuance of RFID cards to the registered individuals, as per the schedule prescribed by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
Pertinently, a total of 9,224 service providers have been registered at the Ganderbal Axis, so far. Across all registration points, the Labour Department has achieved 88.6 % of its target, having registered 23,787 out of the total target of 26,850 service providers.
Later, the Labour Commissioner visited the under-construction Zojila and Z-Morh Tunnels, two vital infrastructure projects in the region.
At these worksites, he interacted with both the workers and the management representatives to assess the implementation of labour laws and welfare schemes.
During the interaction, he enquired about the key aspects of worker welfare. These included timely payment of wages, occupational safety and health standards, provision of transit accommodation for non-local workers, awareness and registration under the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Act, coverage under social security schemes such as Employees’ State Insurance (ESIC) and Provident Fund (PF).
The Labour Commissioner stressed upon the management to ensure strict adherence to all applicable labour laws. He inspected the on-site health facilities and reiterated that the welfare of workers must remain a top priority, especially in large-scale infrastructure projects.
This visit underscores the commitment of the Labour Department, J&K, towards ensuring not only the seamless organization of the SANJY but also the protection of workers’ rights and welfare in alignment with statutory labour frameworks.
