DSEK orders continuation of remedial coaching during summer break

Srinagar : School Education Department Wednesday ordered the education institutions to continue remedial teaching during Summer vacations for schools with poor results in JKBOSE Class 10th & 12th Examinations.

According to the news agency, Joint Director elementary education at Directorate of School Education Kashmir in a communique said, “Remedial teaching was initiated for schools that recorded unsatisfactory performance in the recently declared JKBOSE Class 10th and 12th examinations.”

It also said that DSEK has reviewed that sustained academic support is crucial to bridge learning gaps and ensure that students are well-prepared for the forthcoming biannual examinations.

DSEK said that in view of the matter, and keeping in mind the best interests of students, it is ordered that throughout the summer vacations, it shall continue without any interruption as envisaged in already issued order for the schools identified with poor results.

“Classes shall be organized during early morning hours from 8:00 am to facilitate a conducive learning environment and to safeguard students from extreme heat during the day,” the directorate ordered.

DSEK said that the objective of remedial teaching is to strengthen the fundamental concepts of students, provide them individual attention, clarify their doubts, and equip them with exam-oriented preparation so that they can improve their performance in the upcoming biannual exams.

“The subject-wise remedial plan with timelines prepared by the concerned teachers should be strictly adhered to and followed in letter and spirit,” it said.

DSEK further said that the Heads of Institutions shall ensure that remedial teaching focuses intensively on subjects and topics identified and monitor it on daily basis with written records.

“Detailed remedial schedules shall be displayed on the school notice boards for information of students, parents and monitoring institutions and teachers engaged for remedial classes shall adopt interactive and student-friendly teaching methods, assess the progress of students regularly, and maintain comprehensive records of attendance, lesson dairies with topics covered, and student assessment and improvement,” it reads.

DSEK further said that the parents shall be sensitized and motivated to ensure that their wards atterid the remedial classes regularly and make full use of this additional academic support.

“Cluster Heads shall personally monitor the conduct and quality of remedial classes by visiting schools periodically. Daily monitoring reports, along with photographs and performance reviews, shall be submitted to Cluster Heads and respective DIETs without fail,” DSEK said.

The directorate further ordered that the DIETs shall closely monitor the process and submit reports to SCERT on weekly basis.
”Non-compliance of the instructions or any laxity in the conduct of remedial teaching shall be viewed seriously and strict disciplinary action shall be initiated against the erring officials and teachers.”

DSEK accordingly directed Chief Education Officers to implement the order in letter and spirit so that the students are fully supported academically and are better equipped to succeed in the upcoming supplementary JKBOSE examinations—(KNO)
