Kupwara : In a landmark step towards strengthening healthcare facilities in the far-flung border region of Karnah, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara on saturday inaugurated a Dialysis Unit at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tangdar. The inaugural ceremony was attended by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Tangdar, local dignitaries, community leaders, and senior health officials.
The facility is a vital addition to the healthcare infrastructure of Tangdar, where patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases previously had to travel long and difficult routes through mountainous terrains to avail dialysis services. With the commissioning of this unit, patients will now receive lifesaving treatment at their doorstep.
Speaking at the occasion, the CMO Kupwara said that the government is committed to bringing specialized healthcare services to border and remote areas. He emphasized that the new unit will save both time and money for patients while providing immediate medical relief to those in urgent need.
The SDM Tangdar congratulated the health department on this achievement, describing it as a milestone for the local population. He noted that initiatives like this will not only ease patient hardships but also strengthen public trust in government healthcare services.
Community elders and local leaders expressed gratitude to the health department, terming the inauguration a “dream fulfilled” for the people of Karnah. They highlighted that dialysis services had been a long-pending demand, and its fulfillment marks a new era of healthcare accessibility in the region.
The Dialysis Unit has been established under the National Health Mission (NHM), with crucial support from the Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education Department, the Mission Director NHM, the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, and the Director Health Services Kashmir.
The event concluded with doctors and paramedics pledging their dedication to ensuring the unit functions efficiently for the benefit of patients. The new Dialysis Unit at SDH Tangdar stands as a symbol of the government’s commitment to deliver quality healthcare even in the remotest corners of the district.
