Kupwara : The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kupwara, under the aegis of Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JK LSA) and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), organised an awareness programme under the flagship initiative “NALSA SAMVAAD” at Gund Kamal Qaziabad.
The programme was aimed at strengthening access to justice for marginalised, vulnerable Adivasis and Denotified/Nomadic Tribes by spreading awareness about their legal rights, constitutional safeguards, welfare legislations, and the availability of free legal aid services.
Members of the tribal community participated in large numbers and actively engaged in the programme. The programme was attended by Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsels Mr. Pinar Ahmad and Mr. Tawseef Raja, who delivered elaborative, detailed, and informative speeches focusing on the constitutional protections and welfare schemes available to the tribal community.
During their addresses, Mr. Pinar Ahmad and Mr. Tawseef Raja highlighted key constitutional and statutory provisions, including safeguards under Articles 14, 15(4), 16(4), 19(5), 244, and the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of India, and explained important welfare legislations such as the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and various education, scholarship, livelihood, housing, and social security schemes meant for tribal communities.
The participants were also informed about access to free legal aid, legal representation, Lok Adalats, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms through Legal Services Authorities.
Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) Mr. Mohd Rafi Dar and Mr. Tawseef Ahmad Masoodi were also present and played an active role in mobilising the community and facilitating effective interaction between the participants and the legal aid functionaries.
During the programme, on-the-spot grievances raised by the participants were heard, and the people were made aware of their legal rights and entitlements. The participants were assured that their grievances would be taken up and redressed through appropriate legal mechanisms, in accordance with law.
The programme featured an interactive session wherein participants freely raised their issues and concerns, reaffirming the commitment of DLSA Kupwara to ensure that legal services reach the doorsteps of marginalised and vulnerable communities.
The community members expressed their gratitude to DLSA Kupwara and requested that more such programmes and legal awareness camps be organised in the future.
