JAMMU: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on Thursday, with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officers of the J&K Police, civil administration, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, and top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs in attendance.
This will be the first major security review on the Union Territory in 2026 and comes in the backdrop of intensified joint operations by security forces in the mountainous and remote areas of the Jammu region to track down terrorists, including foreign militants.
Officials said the meeting will deliberate on strategies to eliminate terrorists hiding in difficult and inaccessible terrain, strengthen counter-terror mechanisms, and ensure zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), apart from other security-related issues.
Among those expected to attend are Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Intelligence Chief Nitish Kumar, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, and heads of CAPFs and intelligence agencies.
Senior officers are likely to brief the Home Minister on winter security preparedness, measures to prevent infiltration, and recent anti-terror operations. Over the past few months, security forces have engaged terrorists in several encounters in the higher reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and other districts, while infiltration attempts along the LoC and IB have been foiled.
Intelligence inputs indicate that terrorists are waiting across both the LoC and IB to infiltrate with the support of Pakistan-based handlers, including the Pakistan Army and the ISI.(Agencies)
