Kupwara : Marking the 77th Republic Day with a strong social message, the Indian Army today launched an extensive outreach and door-to-door awareness campaign titled “Towards a Drug-Free Kupwara”, aimed at combating the growing menace of drug abuse in the district.
As part of the initiative, cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), under the guidance and supervision of Army personnel, fanned out across various localities of Kupwara. The teams interacted with residents, especially youth and parents, conducting awareness sessions, distributing educational material, and highlighting the serious social, psychological, and health consequences of drug addiction.
The campaign reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to youth empowerment, community welfare, and national security by promoting a healthy and resilient society. Emphasis was laid on prevention, early intervention, and rehabilitation, while encouraging young people to channel their energy towards constructive pursuits such as education, sports, and skill development.
Officials informed that the initiative, which commenced from Kupwara, will be gradually expanded to cover the entire North Kashmir region in coordination with civil administration and local stakeholders. The sustained community-driven approach aims to create long-term awareness and collective responsibility in eliminating drug abuse.
On the occasion, the Indian Army appealed to all sections of society to actively participate in the mission, reinforcing the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and contributing towards a safer, healthier, and drug-free future for the region.
