Kupwara : A seven-day training programme on Scientific Beekeeping and Honey Value Addition concluded successfully on friday at the Agriculture Complex Kupwara, marking a significant step towards promoting sustainable livelihoods and rural entrepreneurship in the district.
The programme was jointly organised by the Centre for Rural Development and Agriculture Research in collaboration with J&K Bank and the Agriculture Production Department Kupwara. It was inaugurated on April 03 at Town Hall Kupwara and witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 70 young men and women from different parts of the district.
During the training, participants were provided in-depth knowledge on scientific beekeeping practices, including hive management, colony maintenance, and seasonal management of bees. The programme also emphasized honey value addition, with sessions on branding, packaging, and effective marketing strategies aimed at enhancing income generation opportunities.
A major highlight of the initiative was the hands-on practical training, where participants gained firsthand experience in hive handling and honey processing techniques. Experts from the concerned departments facilitated the sessions, ensuring a balanced blend of theoretical understanding and practical exposure.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to encourage rural youth to adopt beekeeping as a viable and sustainable livelihood option while strengthening the apiculture sector in Kupwara.
At the valedictory function held at the Agriculture Complex Kupwara, certificates were distributed among all participants upon successful completion of the programme. The organisers expressed satisfaction over the active participation and voiced optimism that such initiatives will play a crucial role in boosting the district’s beekeeping potential and rural economy.
