Srinagar : Srinagar recorded the hottest night of the season as the minimum temperature settled at 19.2 degrees Celsius, several notches above the normal for early June, according to official meteorological data.
The elevated night temperature reflected the continuing heatwave-like conditions across large parts of the Kashmir Valley, where both daytime and night-time temperatures have remained above seasonal averages over the past several days.
Officials said the absence of significant rainfall activity and prevailing dry weather conditions have contributed to the unusual rise in temperatures.
Among other stations in the Valley, Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara settled at 15.2 degrees Celsius. Kokernag registered 16.5 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam, which usually remains comparatively cooler, recorded 12.4 degrees Celsius during the night.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius, while Sonamarg settled at 11.8 degrees Celsius.
Data also showed that Konibal Pampore recorded 17.2 degrees Celsius, Srinagar Airport 17.4 degrees Celsius, Awantipora 17.0 degrees Celsius, Bandipora 17.6 degrees Celsius, Kulgam 17.6 degrees Celsius, Pulwama 16.5 degrees Celsius and Anantnag 17.5 degrees Celsius. Shopian recorded a comparatively lower minimum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius.
Weather officials said the prevailing conditions are expected to continue in the absence of any major western disturbance affecting the region immediately. The persistent rise in night temperatures has also added to discomfort levels, particularly in urban areas including Srinagar.
The Valley has witnessed a steady increase in temperatures over the past week, with several locations recording above-normal readings during both day and night hours.
