In a post on X, Mehbooba said the incident was not merely another instance of rising crimes against women but a deep, festering wound on the conscience of society.

She said that ten days after the incident, the silence surrounding the brutal crime was deepening the anguish of the grieving family and eroding public faith in the justice system.

“If decisive action is not taken now and the perpetrators brought to justice with exemplary punishment, such heinous crimes will continue with impunity,” Mehbooba said.

She urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to immediately hand over the case to the Crime Branch for a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation.

Meanwhile, police have arrested six persons, including a teacher and a nurse, in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.(GNS)
