Budgam : Dr GoodDay LuxCare Studio, a homegrown textile-care venture founded by medical professional-turned-entrepreneur Dr Salma Nabi, inaugurated its sixth outlet at Agrikalan Magam in Budgam district on Friday, marking another milestone in its growing presence across Kashmir.
The outlet was inaugurated by noted Kashmiri writer Adfar Ghulam Nabi and Ghulam Din Khan in the presence of guests and well-wishers.
Established in 2025, the venture aims to bring professional laundry, dry-cleaning and specialised textile-care services to Kashmir, with particular emphasis on preserving the region’s traditional and delicate fabrics.
An MBBS-qualified medical professional, Dr Salma Nabi ventured into entrepreneurship after nearly two years of research into modern textile-care techniques, including dry cleaning, wet cleaning, leather treatment, carpet cleaning and environmentally conscious cleaning methods. As part of her preparation, she visited textile-care centres in Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi to gain insights into modern machinery, industry practices and business models.
The company commenced commercial operations with its first outlet at Chanapora in August 2025. Despite facing legal and personal challenges that resulted in the temporary closure of the outlet, Dr Nabi resumed operations in November 2025 and gradually rebuilt the venture, expanding it to six outlets across the Valley.
A key focus of the studio is the specialised cleaning and preservation of Kashmir’s traditional textiles, including Pashmina shawls, Sozni embroidery, Tilla work, Aari embroidery, Crewel work, Namda, Gabba and handwoven carpets. The company follows fabric-specific cleaning techniques aimed at preserving the original texture, colour, finish and quality of delicate garments and intricate embroidery.
Speaking about her vision, Dr Nabi said the initiative was aimed at addressing the gap in professional textile-care services in Kashmir by combining modern technology with traditional knowledge of fabrics.
“Our Pashmina, Sozni, Tilla, Namda and handwoven carpets are part of our identity. They deserve specialised care. I wanted to build a service that combines textile science, modern technology and an understanding of our traditional fabrics,” she said.
The studio offers a range of services, including professional dry cleaning, wet cleaning, premium laundry, bridal-wear cleaning, leather bag and shoe cleaning, carpet and rug cleaning, sofa and upholstery cleaning, curtain, blanket and quilt cleaning, along with steam ironing and on-site ironing facilities for weddings and other events.
Operating under the philosophy, “No to Bleach. No to Petrol. Yes to Science-Led Textile Care,” the venture emphasises modern, fabric-specific cleaning methods while reducing reliance on harsh chemicals wherever appropriate.
Beyond business expansion, the initiative also aims to generate local employment, promote professional skill development and encourage greater participation of women in the organised service sector.
Dr Nabi said her long-term vision was to establish a sustainable Kashmiri brand that blends modern technology with an understanding of the Valley’s rich textile heritage and traditional craftsmanship.
With the inauguration of its Magam outlet, Dr GoodDay LuxCare Studio aims to strengthen its footprint across Kashmir while promoting professional textile-care practices and creating new employment opportunities.
