Taking Dal to it’s lost Beauty
The cleaning of Dal Lake has been an uphill task for the governments over the past many years, with manual labour to machines, signs of clean Dal show hardly any glimpse. Being a major tourist attraction for visitors in the valley, the government is trying to make it the level where one can really admire it’s beauty. After launching the cleanliness campaign recently, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Dal Lake here has not been cleaned up to the level it was supposed to, and appealed to the people to cooperate to restore it’s glory. Though over the past many years the cleanliness process on the patches of Dal still give an unfavorable look to the visitors. After launching a 15-day mega cleanliness and de-weeding drive of the lake under the Swachhta Pakhwada of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Sinha said attempts to clean the lake in the past have not come up with the desired results. While the official in Lakes and Water-ways Development Authority (LAWDA) say that in the past decade the department has not procured any new de-weeding machine to clean the Dal Lake, However, the official said that under the new program, LAWDA would purchase new imported machines. While officials from various departments can be seen participating in the ongoing Dal cleanliness programme, however the question remains would the drive be taken to it’s logical conclusion and the valley can witness clean Dal.
