Ahead of winter frequent power cuts, Low voltage irks Kupwara district residents.

Residents of this frontier district are up in arms against the Power Development Department for facing unscheduled power cuts.

The iritate inhabitants of Kupwara town and its outskirts, while talking to Media, said: “PDD doesn’t adhere to the schedule due to which the students, preparing for examinations, are facing hardships.”

People from tekipora,Lalpora, Sogam, Warnaw, Kalarose, Khumriyal, Kupwara town, Trehgam, Kralpora, Karnah, Tanghdar, Drugmulla, Nagri, Kandi, Vadhpora, Kawari, Natnusa, Maidan Chogal, Gund Chogal, Magam, Vilgam, Tarthpora, Hangikote, Sirajpora, Sunmula, Handwara town, Lower and Upper Rajwar, Mawer, Qaziabad, Pohru Chakla, and Kralgund complained about frequent power cuts in these areas.

The situation in un-metered areas of Kupwara, Langate, Handwara,Kralpora,Trehgam, Hayhama and Lolab valley is no different, they said, adding, many remote villages including Badkoot, Rajpora, Kalmoona, Hafrada, Rangward, Marseri, Shalal and Sudal were facing acute power shortage.

In Hyhama area the power supplied from Tikker Recieving station is disrupted after every half an hour and PDD resorts to continuous power cuts, locals alleged.

This area has also got a new recieving station that is about to start but the work has crossed the deadline from administration.

Hyhama is the most disrupted area in kupwara district it’s power supply is bifercated to Hyhama-A & Hyhama-B locals alleged.

A local resident of tekipora lolab Shayista Mir complained that power plays hide and seek and during night hours the supply goes off for hours together.

The traders from Kupwara and Handwara also complained that due to irregular power supply their business was getting affected.

A senior Power Development Department (PDD) official said that due to maintainance of grids, Recieving stations and people across the district had resorted to using heating gadgets which according to him was the main cause of erratic power supply.

He said that unless people use electricity judiciously, the problem would persist.
