“Initially, when the tournament was started, some matches were left unfinished because of low light in the evening after which the organizers got floodlights installed in the field,” Reyaz Ahmad, an organizer of the Sheikh Hamza volleyball championship tournament told news agency.

“We sought help from district administration and got six poles on which we had to put up lights,” he said, adding that they got a positive response from them.

“As soon as we brought the poles to the volleyball court, the sports lovers of the village came to help us erect these poles and little by little we became successful,” he said, adding that after erecting the poles we arranged the lights and finally we succeeded.

As the news of matches—which were scheduled to be played there under floodlights—went viral on social media, Reyaz says huge rush of people left the cosy atmosphere at their home moved towards the ground.

“In the evening, thousands of spectators come here to watch the match, which was never seen here before as such event is being held for the first time in our area,” he added.

Mustafa Ahmad who is capable of playing volleyball says that sports infrastructure should be further developed in his area as the youth here has a lot of talent in the sports field.

“Sports activities also keep the youth away from evil elements so we hope that the sports infrastructure here will be further enhanced,” he said.

Thanking the administration for help, youth of the area urged deputy commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad to develop sports infrastructure further in their respective area—(KNO)
