There is a huge demand for Saffron from all around the world since it gets the geographical indication tag (GI) . Govt of jammu kashmir was keenly working to get saffron under GI registrary . GI tag plays a pivotal role and it makes sure that the purest kashmiri saffron is sold in the market.Around 30,000 families in Kashmir are associated with Saffron cultivation . This year there has been a huge demand in the domestic market as nd abroad as well . Production is double this year than it was previously . Adequate rain on timely basis helped farmers and they are happy with the saffron demand across world. Saffron is a vital crop and is used on numerous occasions in our country . In order to make this crop a permanent feature irrigation facility is must . Authorities should do every bit to make irrigation facility available for saffron farmers.

Kashmir observes the saffron festival in Pampore – called the saffron capital . Govt has been able to engage people across country and abroad in saffron festivals . The Saffron festival was organized by department of Tourism Jammu and Kashmir and witnessed huge participation of officials, growers, student and local people. It was held in open Saffron fields at famous SoneKrend Pampore.

The beauty of Saffron Festival is that it brings together people from all over the country who come to see the festival and enjoy it together with everyone else.
