Workshop on Export Awareness, Capacity building held at Kupwara, 40 traders, entrepreneurs registered for export oriented products

DC Kupwara stresses for better packaging,marketing, promotion of expert oriented products

KUPWARA: Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) organized an export awareness and Capacity building workshop in collaboration with District adminstration Kupwara and Directorate General of Foreign trade, at Meeting hall of DC complex Kupwara today.
Export Workshop was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray.
On the onset of the workshop, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara welcomed the officers from JKTPO, DGFT ,Line departments, experts and entrepreneurs on behalf of the district administration Kupwara.
While presenting his key note address Deputy Commissioner Kupwara said that Kupwara district is having vast potential and specialities in different export related products.
Famous Red rice of Kupwara, walnut of Kupwara, Kupwara honey, and Handicrafts and Marble of Kupwara, is known world-wide but question arises why dont we export these products.
” If California walnut which is inferior to Kupwara walnut , reaches in every corner of the world, Why not Kupwara walnut?
We have rice of Tamil Nadu, Punjab and other states. Why red rice of Kupwara is not known, marketed and exported despite it is having high quality, great flavour and aroma? Despite having numerous specialities, we are not able to sell our products world-over due to lack of awareness and will-power”DC said.
” In Kupwara district traders simply buy walnut kernels from farmers and load them in trucks and send to big mandis of the country. This is not exporting or marketing . Actually export is smart packaging, adopting maketing strategies, Linking of products,online selling and value addition of products” DC said.
DC asked entrepreneurs and traders of Kupwara district to focus on value addition and packing of walnut Kernels especially.
” We can add different flavours to walnut based products to make it more sought over we can add choclate flavor to walnut Kernals to add its value, flavour and aroma.
DC directed all traders and entrepreneurs to redouble their efforts for proper development of kupwara based export products so that these products become a brand in the world and Kupwara district becomes an export hub.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner said that trader and farmer is directly linked to each other and depend on each other financially.Earnings from traders directly trickle down to farmer or grower.
On the ocasion experts imparted impartant knowledge about various export related government schemes.
Detailed awareness regarding various financial assistance for exports, Target market,Insurance, and I.E.C activities in exports was given to participating growers, and traders.
Experts deliberated on improving of packaging of products, improving of marketing of the scheduled products outside India, promotion and development of the export oriented products on modern lines.
The workshop included detailed sessions on Benefits of exports, process of getting IEC code, awareness regarding India Business Portal and India Trade portal, credit linkages for exports and credit risk insurance facilities, e-commerce platforms, Logistics and potential of products of region in international market.
it was further added that JKTPO regularly organizes and participates in various activities like Buyer-Seller Meets, Trade Fairs, Exhibitions, Conferences, Seminars, etc. at National and International level for registered members & women entrepreneurs.
A K Bhushan, Deputy Director DGFT, Jammu briefed about various Government scheme for export and documentation required for IEC registration. The participants were given the detailed presentations of all the major aspects related to exports, checklist for documents required to get IEC Code, market linkages including e-commerce linkages and benefits. Many queries were resolved on the spot.
On the ocasion more than 40 traders and entrepreneurs of Kupwara district were registered with DGFT intending to export products like apple, walnut, spices, red rice, Honey, handloom and handicrafts.
