A group of residents told news agency that the government should ensure that the allotment should be done by PDD Kupwara and Handwara as per terms and conditions of the contracts.

“As per conditions of the contract, only such firms need to quote who can produce satisfactory evidence that they have necessary experience, financial resources and engineering organization to undertake such work to the satisfaction of the Department. Tenders should clearly state their experience in design, supply, installation, testing and commission of similar works as desired by the purchaser,” they said, adding that the government should spell out whether successful bidders have executed works of similar nature in the past.

They said their only concern is to ensure transparency in the allotment of the contract.

“The government should only allow contractors who have proper experience in the installation of the solar lighting system,” they said, adding that they demanded that there should be proper verification of experience in executing works of the similar nature by the contractors.

The bids for the contracts were floated on March 13 and the last date was March 20.

As per the contract, the works have to be completed by March 31—(KNO)
