Editorial | Drug Scourge in J&K 

There is no need to bomb a nation which is already caught in the dark web of drugs. The killer of whole humanity, the horror of drug abuse is a major threat to our part of the world. There are reports of drug sales and peddlers being caught, as well as the recovery of illegal drugs and narcotics, almost on a daily basis. The threat of drugs has established itself as the worst social vice. The drug trafficking is a constant problem for the valley. As many individuals succumb to the menace, it is caught in a vicious cycle and is consuming the valley. Large quantities of various substances, including heroin, brown sugar, and codeine phosphate, have been found in various locations throughout the state over the years. The drug horror is quickly approaching, and considering the bad effects it has already had, our indifference to a threat of this size will only make us wait for the inevitable punishment. There is an urgent need to draw attention to the problem that is consuming society not less painfully and quickly than a pandemic, through both government programmes and pulpits. Despite the efforts being made at many levels, drug misuse is not decreasing, thus additional positive efforts must be made at the governmental, non-governmental, public, and social levels with the hope of eradicating the drug menace’s horrors from the Union Territory. Drug dealers and suppliers must be met with force, and those who are complicit in the threat must be extricated from the predicament they are in. Criminals in action can take down the Mafia, drug treatment centres have the ability to save the lives of people currently using drugs, and drug task forces are specifically designed to catch suppliers and peddlers. Before drugs engulf an entire generation, let’s eliminate drug abuse to save humanity.
