The drives were conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb to curb the practice of illegal profiteering and ensure all essential commodities are sold at Government approved rates as per the quality standards with sufficient availability of consumables ahead of the Eid ul Adha festivities.

The Market Checking Squads comprised of staff from Revenue, Police, Food Safety, MC, FCS&CA, etc. under the supervision of SDM Zainapora, Tehsildars and NTs, conducted intensive market checking in Main town Shopian, Keller, Zainapora, Hermain and elsewhere across the district.

In addition, huge quantities of substandard food items including fruits and vegetables were destroyed besides polythene bags damaged on the spot.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian today visited Shopian town and took stock of the availability of essentials and supervised market checking.
