J&K has no dearth of talent when it comes to the sports sector. Taking the cue from performances of several players making it to the national and international levels, especially in Cricket, the J&K administration rolled out a sports policy to turn the UT into a sports powerhouse. The Jammu and Kashmir Government over the time is building cutting-edge sports facilities throughout the UT with an intention of elevating sports’ facilities for aspiring athletes. The LG administration has taken a number of measures to develop top-notch sports facilities in J&K, and is eager to give opportunities to young people. Interestingly the J&K UT’s sports budget is bigger than that of several of the largest states in the nation. The Indian government has been generous in funding sports and education in Jammu & Kashmir. The J&K Sports Council has at the same time become a potent tool for identifying avenues for youthful talent over the time. The youth as such are being provided with world-class facilities and instruction to exhibit their talent in a variety of sporting disciplines. The authorities are stepping up their attempts to turn J&K into the nation’s sports capital. Local athletes who work hard to excel in many sports disciplines and bring honour to UT and the country are given every form of support. Conduct of sports’ events has become a routine affair now with availability of extensive infrastructure. The LG administration has set goals for itself and has requested the Sports Council to use strategic thinking to find locations where young people are performing well and to turn those locations into Special Sports Hubs. One may suggest the Sports Council here that it can collaborate with other agencies like the Rural Development, Police, and Higher Education Department for early realization of its goals. With endeavors in the pipeline, the onus nevertheless also lies on the shoulders of players and coaches to utilize the opportunities and facilities to the fullest. If things go according to the plan, the day is not too far when J&K will earn its special tag in the sports sector on national and international level.
