Kupwara : Under the aegis of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and Vigilance Awareness Week-2023, a One Day Seminar on “Corruption Free Jammu & Kashmir” was held in Government Degree College (GDC) Sogam on tuesday. The event was jointly organized by IQAC, Debate & Seminar Committee, Eco-Club, Red Ribbon Club, and NSS Unit of GDC Sogam in collaboration with Sub Divisional Administration Lolab. The patron of the  program was the worthy principal, Prof. (Dr)  Shamim Ahmad Dar. Prof. Qaiser Bashir (HoD, Environmental Science) rendered his services as the moderator and Prof. Mohd Rafi Hajam (HoD, Economics) acted as the Rapporteur.
The programme started with the welcome address presented by the worthy Principal in which he welcomed all the guests and highlighted the importance of such an event. “Corruption is dangerous for the country and it is like a cancer which erodes the society internally”, he said.
The first Resource Person (RP), Prof. Sajad Ahmad (HoD English, GDC Sogam) delivered a detailed lecture on “Corruption Free Jammu & Kashmir” in which he spoke about the causes and consequences of the corruption. He clearly mentioned that if corruption and corrupt practices are not slowed or stopped then life of a common man shall become much worse than the “colonial rule”. The second RP for this event was Mr. Mudasir Ahmad Khan (SHO Sogam), who spoke about the different dimensions of corruption and urged the students that all the government departments are doing their work but you people should also come forward and report such incidents of corruption. “After drug menace, corruption is a big and a burning issue” that we are facing currently, he said. He emphasized that we should not only take pledges but we should also fulfill our commitments toward our society and country.
The third RP on this occasion was Mr. Enamul Maqbool (Tehsildar, Lolab), who presented “Valedictory Remarks” in which he briefed about the corruption, its different forms and the ways to combat it. “Corruption is not only accepting bribes”, he said, “but diversion of funds is also a form of corruption”. He also spoke about the role of various agencies like LG Cell and Anti-corruption Bureau, where one can lodge corruption-related complaints. Referring to the students as “future ambassadors”, he stressed that it is their responsibility to educate the common masses about the ill effects of corruption, so that our society makes progress and simultaneously our country becomes developed.
The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks, proposed by Dr. Mohammad Imran Malik (HoD Geography/ NSS Program Officer). The programme was attended by hundreds of students and staff members of the host college and adjoining Higher Secondary Schoold (Boys and Girls) of Sogam and  the employees of different departments of Sub-district Sogam.
