GDC Sogam Celebrates Annual Day 2023

Kupwara : Govt. Degree College (GDC) Sogam (Lolab), Kupwara celebrated its Annual Day-2023 on 18th November 2023 with great zeal and enthusiasm. The patron of the event was the worthy Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmad Dar, and the Program Coordinator was Prof. Mehbooba Bano (HoD, Political Science; Vice Principal).

A student-centric and much-awaited event in an educational institution’s calendar, a large gathering of students (both male and female), guests (including Principals and professors of north Kashmir colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of Sogam, officers/ officials from the sub-district administration Sogam and officers from 28 RR Indian Army) and staff members were present on this occasion.
Mr Aijaz Ahmad Bhat (SDM Sogam) was the chief guest and Mr. Ali Mohd. Najar (Ex Principal/ Member of IQAC, GDC Sogam), Major Shabir Ahmad, Mj. Mandeep and Captain Pranaw (from 28 RR Bn. Indian Army, Gujarpatti, Sogam) were the guest of honors on this occasion.

The event was collectively moderated by Prof. Sajad Ahmad (AP/ HoD, English), Ms Seerat Bhat (BSc 6th Sem), Mr Qawsar Manzoor (BA 1st Sem) and Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat (AP English/ Convener, Debates & Seminar Committee).

The program started with the recitation of the Quranic verses followed by Naat by Ms Khalida Majeed (BA 3rd Sem) and Ms Sabreena Hasan (BA 6th Sem), respectively. This was followed by the College Tarana.

The Welcome Address cum Introductory Speech was presented by the worthy Principal, who welcomed all the guests, students and staff; highlighted the importance of the annual day function in the college and briefed the audience about the major feats and milestones achieved by the college, faculty and the students in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities during 2023.

The event was marked by a number of cultural and entertaining programs (like Kashmiri traditional rouff; Kashmiri, Urdu, Pahari and Punjabi songs and dance performances: solo, duet and group; skits and short entertainments; etc.) by the students of GDC Sogam and GDC Bomai. The audience was enthralled by these fascinated singing and entertaining performances by the students. On this occasion, a speech was presented by Mr Danish Fayaz Tantray (BA 6th sem) to share his experiences in the College.

In this grand ceremony, the best-performing students during the current year were given certificates of appreciation, medals, mementos and trophies for their outstanding performances in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Moreover, Momentos were awarded to the guests and recently transferred faculty members for their contributions and services to GDC Sogam in various capacities and to the students who got selected for PG in different universities of J&K in the current academic session.
On this occasion, the staff members (teaching, non-teaching and local fund employees) were given Certificate of Appreciation for rendering their services during the NAAC visit, which resulted in gaining Grade B+ in the maiden NAAC Assessment in July 2023.

The event ended with the fornal Vote of Thanks, proposed by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat (HoD, Botany; IQAC, Coordinator). The event was attended by around 500 students of batches 2020-2023 (including NSS volunteers), 100s of guests, students and staff of GDC Bomai and staff members of the host college.
