SRINAGAR :- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat Saturday chaired a meeting of District Level Implementation Committee(DLIC) on implementation of PM Vishwakarma here at Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex to review the progress of registration of beneficiaries on the Portal.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner was apprised by the General Manager, District Industries Centre, Srinagar that 2nd-level verification of as many as 295 Artisans of the District has been completed at the District Level Committee.
The DC was informed that 98 cases have been verified from rural areas by the Rural Development Department and 197 cases from urban areas of the District by Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
On the occasion, the DC accorded the approval for all 295 cases of the beneficiary Artisans of the District who will be imparted necessary trainings to upscale their professional skills, in addition, stipend and free of cost tool kits will also be provided to them during.
He emphasized the importance of concerted efforts and creating awareness among masses to maximize the scheme’s impact on the socio-economic upliftment of the Artisans.
The DC said that the PM Vishwakarma scheme is poised to directly benefit thousands of artisans and craftsmen in the district, providing them with essential tools, training, and financial support for their socio-economic development.
The DC also laid stress on monitoring the implementation of PM Vishwakarma cases on a daily basis including progress in Artisan registration on Portal, verification processes in rural and urban areas, stakeholder capacity building. He emphasized the importance of creating awareness among masses to maximize the scheme’s impact on the ground to ensure efficient and effective implementation of PM Vishwakarma for overall welfare and socio-economic development of the Artisans.
Pertinent to mention that, the PM Vishwakarma scheme offers a range of benefits including toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, training to artisans, Rs 500 per day during training, collateral-free credit supports up to Rs 1 lakh (first tranche) and Rs 2 lakh (second tranche) at a concessional interest rate of 5%, incentives for digital transactions and marketing support.
The PM Vishwakarma scheme initially covers 18 trades including Carpenters, Boat Makers, Armourers, Blacksmiths, Hammer and Tool Kit, Makers, Locksmiths, Goldsmiths, Potters, Sculptor, Stone breakers, Cobblers (Shoe smith’s/ Footwear artisans), Masons, Basket/Mat/Broom Makers/Coir Weavers, Doll & Toy Makers, Barbers, Garland makers, Washermen, Tailors and Fishing Net Maker.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Ahmad Kataria, General Manager DIC, Hamida Akhtar, Chief Planning Officer, Mohammad Yaseen Lone, Assistant Commissioner Development, Syed Farooq, BDO Harwan, Majid Iqbal, Distric Manager CSC, Asrar Shirazi, besides representatives from MSME and other stackholders attended the meeting through virtual mode.

Dy. DEO inspects Special Camps at Heerpora Shopian
SHOPIAN, JANUARY 27: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Who is also District Panchayat Election Officer, a team of Officials lead by Deputy District Election Officer, Jahangir Ahmed today visited the Special Camps in Heerpora and its adjoining Panchayats.
The special camps were held across the district to register new voters as well as to fill the gap between the mother roll and Panchayat electoral roll.
The revision for the Panchayat Electoral Roll has started from 15th January and shall continue till 5th February 2024, during which all the new voters as well as those who are left out can get enrolled by applying through Form PER-2A . The eligible voters can approach their Panchayat Electoral Booth Officers who are either a local village worker or Gram Sevak.
During the inspection of polling stations, PEBO’s were urged to purify the electoral roll by making it complete and accurate. They were also urged to carry out door to door visit and maintain population register of their respective areas.
Special camps shall continue also on 27-01-2024, 28-01-2024, 03-02-2024 & 04-02-2024 during which PEBO’s shall be available in their Panchayat headquarters with their electoral rolls and forms for addition and deletion.
A large gathering of local residents and Assembly BLO’s were present at the camps. It was also stressed upon PEBO’s to undertake the task of spreading awareness among the people during the revision period.
The period for filling of applications shall be up to 5-02-2024 during which eligible voters can apply for enrolment. The disposal of claims and objections’ shall be carried out by ERO’s till 16-02-2024 and the final publication of Panchayat Electoral Roll shall be carried out on 26-02-2024.

Craft Safari of Handicrafts & Handloom Deptt comes full circle with Padma Shri honour to Ghulam Nabi Dar
SRINAGAR, JANUARY 27: A commendation ceremony was today organized by the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir at Ghulam Nabi Dar’s residence at Dana Mazar Safakadal to honor his recent accolade, the Padma Shri, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the art of wood carving, particularly on walnut.
Renowned for his craftsmanship, Ghulam Nabi has amassed acclaim over the years, receiving accolades like State Award in the year 1984 and a National Award in 1995. His artistic prowess has transcended borders, garnering appreciation in countries like Iraq, Germany, and Thailand, establishing his global reputation.
After Srinagar joined the UNESCO creative cities network, the Department of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir launched the first craft safari from the Safakadal area, showcasing Ghulam Nabi Dar among seven other artisans. These craft safaris were instrumental in raising the profile of artisans, fostering direct connections between buyers and craftsmen, providing a deeper understanding of their craft, and enabling direct purchases from the artisans.
At the felicitation event, the Director of Handicrafts and Handloom Kashmir underscored the significance of the award, emphasizing that it not only brings recognition to artisans like Ghulam Nabi Dar but also reflects positively on the community and the state.
Encouraging Ghulam Nabi Dar to persist in his pursuit of excellence, the Director highlighted that such awards open doors for business opportunities and inspiration to others. He expressed optimism about positive transformations in the handicrafts sector and urged collaborative efforts between the department and awardees to elevate the realm of handicrafts to new heights.
The Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, dedicated to propelling the handicraft industry forward, is exerting continuous efforts to integrate artisans into the craft safari initiative.
Alongside fostering advanced skill training, imparting knowledge of modern digital techniques, and promoting brand visibility, the department is actively facilitating the linkage of artisans with both local and global markets.
Additionally, the department is championing adoption of digital methods and ensuring social security measures for the benefit of artisans. Furthermore, the department is committed to showcasing and promoting the exquisite artifacts crafted by these artisans on e-commerce platforms.

DLSA Srinagar organizes Awareness program for prisoners in Central jail Srinagar
SRINAGAR, JANUARY 27: In accordance with PAN India Campaign for Identifying Juveniles in Prisons and Rendering Legal Assistance 2024, aimed to restore the youth and uphold justice, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar today organized an awareness program for prisoners in Central jail Srinagar, focusing on the Juvenile Justice Law.
It is worth mentioning here that the campaign was virtually launched on January 25, 2024, by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority;
Today’s programme was held under the guidance of Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of District Legal Services Authority (PDJ) Srinagar.
Under the campaign,. Jahangir Ahmed Bakshi, Secretary DLSA, Srinagar, officials, Assistant LADC’s and Para Legal Volunteers, of DLSA Srinagar, visited the Central Jail to fulfill the objectives of the campaign.
This collaborative initiative underscores the commitment of legal authorities to ensure fair and just treatment for juvenile offenders within the legal framework.
The program aimed to raise awareness among Juveniles about their rights and entitlements under the Juvenile Justice Law and to provide them with legal assistance and guidance. The program also aimed to identify juveniles in prisons and ensure their timely release and rehabilitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, emphasized the importance of providing legal assistance to juvenile prisoners. He said that the Juvenile Justice Law is a comprehensive legislation that provides for the protection and care of children in conflict with the law. He also urged the prison authorities to ensure that the rights of juvenile prisoners are upheld.
Superintendent, Central Jail, Srinagar, Barkat Ali and Deputy Superintendent Shabir Ahmad Mir expressed their support for the campaign and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to ensure its successful implementation. They assured all necessary logistics assistance to facilitate the smooth conclusion of the campaign.
They stressed the need for collaborative efforts between the judiciary, District Legal Services Authorities, and prison authorities to effectively address the issues faced by juveniles in the criminal justice system.
During the visit, Secretary along with LADCs, Jail PLVs team interacted with inmates, gathered information, and provided guidance on the legal process for claiming juvenility. It was also emphasized that necessary documents be provided to Jail PLVs and LADCs for expeditious initiation of process for claiming juvenility
The program witnessed the presence of inmates, jail officials, and members of the LADCs. The program was a success and achieved its objectives of raising awareness about the Juvenile Justice Law and providing legal assistance to juvenile prisoners.
