Over-The-Top (OTT) series have now become a to go relaxation and entertainment for everyone to dodge boredom, distraction or stress. And there are ample options or series available there on Netflix or Amazon Prime etc to watch. Watching these series surely takes a subscriber on the ride to entertainment yet it aims to educate and empower the society. One such series is DAHAAD. DHAAD is a crime procedural thriller Created by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhter and directed by Ruchika Oberoi along with Reema. Starred by Sonakshi Sinha, Gulshan Devaiah, Vijay Sharma and Sohum Shah against Cyanide Mohan or Mohan Kumar who is a s erial killer preying on women looking for marriage.
Apart from delivering the potential of exploitation of women in India and honey trapping with innocence to lure the money and wealth, through DAHAAD Sonakshi Sinha blocks the culture of marrying girls to settle the responsibility off the shoulders of the parents or care takers of the girls. Amid the heavy pressure of getting married by her mother and society looming every minute over her head, Sonakshi however, suffered the burns of it on her mind and soul yet she survived it fearlessly with courage in-order to pursue her passion and in-order to get her choice acknowledged.
While fighting the war of getting her choice legitimized, she, besides being a highly able Police Officer, she had to suffer character assassination on a very heavy scale. She would be called with disgraceful names, disregard, victimised for her caste and predominantly disrespected for being a woman police officer standing shoulder to shoulder with all the men there. But Sonakshi hails slam and salutation for not ceasing to the dehumanisation and discrimination she undergoes all through.
This story reflects to many women like Sonakshi Sinha who still live the life undergoing character assassination, social negligence, stigmatisation, discrimination, violence, sexual abuse, mental abuse, emotional abuse, physical harassment, bullying, Eve teasing, domestic violence, trafficking, exploitation etc. Many of them land into trauma, some survive, some cease to it and commit suicide and some have accepted this all has their fate.
A big applause and gratitude must go to the makers of the series for choosing this story to portray and educate people about the brutalities that women undergo, through this series. And a very loud and big shout-out goes to Sonakshi Sinha for teaching our girls to appear triumphant over all such evils with her conviction, determination, clarity of choice, belief, dignity, valour and courage.
I hope reading this write up appears resonating the message well.
