He termed the death of a sub-inspector Deepak Sharma as an unfortunate loss in the incident.

According to the news agency DGP visited Kathua and took stock of the situation after this incident in which one gangster was killed and police lost a young officer who was famous for his act of bravery in the past.

Talking to the media, DGP said that police had all the information about the gangster visiting the GMC Kathua alongwith his associates and had laid a trap to nab him. “We wanted him to nab him alive but there was a shootout in which the gangster was killed and we lost a Police Sub Inspector Deepak Sharma,” he said.

DGP said that gangsters, narcotics smugglers and others are trying to build a strong nexus on the pattern of Punjab. “There is a new level of development in Jammu and Kashmir and these people are trying to build a new nexus. They keep weapons with them and also use them. Police were aware of it and the trap was laid accordingly,” he said.

According to police, the gangster was identified as Vasudev Sharma alias Chunnu, who was wanted in many cases and police were after him for some time.

The DGP said that Deepak was a brave officer and wanted to crush the gangster-ism in the area. “We had gone prepared there but unfortunately we lost the sub inspector. But this martyrdom will boost our morale multifold to crush this menace once for all,” the DGP added—(KNO)
