One of the facilities that has been made available is at a prominent location known as Sadna Top. The Indian Army has established a transit facility at Sadna Top, which was a much-needed development not only for tourists and travellers but also for locals. During the winter season, people traveling to Tangdar and Teetwal face tough conditions at this pass due to its altitude, strong winds, and snowfall. By creating this transit facility, people have experienced significant relief. Now, this facility provides a resting place for tourists, locals, and others visiting border places like Teetwal and especially the Sharda Temple, which has been recently established in the Tangdhar-Teetwal-Kupwara region.
The Indian Army, as part of its efforts to promote border tourism and improve infrastructure, has successfully built a transit facility at the well-known Sadna Top in the Kupwara district of North Kashmir. Located along the Tangdar-Karnah road, Sadna Top, also known as the Nustichun Pass, got its name after Bollywood actress Sadhna Shivdasani visited the area after the 1965 war. Her visit boosted the morale of the Indian soldiers stationed there. The project was completed quickly and efficiently.
To make it easier for the public and visitors during security checks, the Indian Army constructed the transit facility as part of their people-oriented program. This facility provides a resting place and amenities for passengers, visitors, and pilgrims traveling to Tangdar. Previously, strong winds, heavy snowfall, and avalanches made security checks and frisking at the top very inconvenient. Now, with the new facility, the local people have praised the Indian Army for this significant improvement.
Sadna Top is located within the Shams Bari Mountain range at an elevation of about 3,130 meters (10,269 feet) above sea level. It is one of the most famous peaks in the Kashmir valley, known for its stunning beauty and surrounding mountains.
The recent inauguration of the historical Sharda Temple at Teetwal has made this mountain pass even more important. The temple, located near POK and separated by the Kishanganga river, is expected to serve as a resting place for Sharda Peet pilgrims. The transit facility will offer pilgrims and visitors a place to rest and learn about the area, with information and insights available in the facility’s rooms.
Sadna Top often experiences high winds and fog, making it a challenging passage. To address this, the Indian Army has established the transit facility, providing a much-needed resting place for tourists. This facility is especially useful during bad weather, offering visitors a place to rest and learn through exhibits in the transit-cum-museum center at Sadna Top.
Travelers can now enjoy their journeys without the previous difficulties of security checks. The transit facility includes a waiting area and a refreshment corner, offering comfort to visitors. Informative boards inside the facility depict the rich history, culture, and traditions of the Karnah valley. The museum at the pass ensures smooth movement and eases travel-related concerns, turning the pass into a comfortable resting place.
Nustachun Pass, also known as Sadna Pass, serves as the gateway to Tangdhar and Karnah Valley along the Line of Control (LoC). The Indian Army established the transit facility to reduce the inconveniences and hardships faced by the local population and tourists. This facility includes a waiting area and a refreshment corner, catering to travelers’ needs. The security infrastructure at the pass has also been significantly improved, ensuring hassle-free movement year-round.
The Indian Army’s efforts are expected to significantly contribute to the region’s growth and prosperity, boosting tourism. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Chinar Corps officially dedicated the transit facility to the citizens and commended all ranks of the Vajr Division for their dedication and commitment to serving the nation.
