Massive Anti-Militancy Op Underway After Soldier, Relative Of Shaurya Chakra Awardee Injured In Rajouri

Jammu : A massive anti-militancy operation is underway in Gunda area of Rajouri district where militants carried out an attack, injuring a civilian, who is said to be a relative of Shaurya Chakra Awardee Parshotam Kumar Sharma, and a soldier on Monday.

Officials told that security establishment believes that there are four heavily armed militants trapped. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that one militant has been killed but there is no official confirmation so far.

Official sources said that said at around 3:10am early morning, militants attacked the house of a VDC member in Gunda area and the nearby army column retaliated, ensuing a gunfight.

In the initial exchange of fire, a civilian and a soldier were and they were immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, they said.

The injured civilian has been identified as Vijay Kumar son of Badrinath from Parshotam’s family.

A top army officer told that militants had come with intention to attack the house of VDC which was successfully thwarted by the army by acting swiftly. “A major tragedy was averted,” he said.

However the officer declined to share details about the operation. More details are awaited.
