Midterm Conference 2024 on “Safe Surgical Practice” Held at SDH Kupwara

Kupwara : The Midterm Conference 2024, dedicated to “Safe Surgical Practice,” officially commenced today at SDH Kupwara. This landmark event, organized by the Post-Graduate Department of Surgery at SDH Kupwara in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (JAKASI), is the first conference hosted by SDH Kupwara.

The conference has garnered widespread attention from medical professionals throughout Jammu and Kashmir. Attendees include veteran professors, surgical and medical experts, medical and surgical consultants, and Medical officers from the Jammu & Kashmir Health Services (JKHS), as well as students from all Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) of the JK. This diverse gathering underscores the conference’s significance in advancing surgical practices and enhancing patient care.

The opening ceremony was marked by the presence of distinguished guests. Madam Ayushi Sudan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, served as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Anjum Afshan, Assistant Director of JK Health Services Kashmir, as Guest of Honour. They were joined by Professor Dr. Iqbal Saleem Mir, Head of Surgery at GMC Srinagar and Chairman of JAKASI, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Medical Superintendent SDH Kupwara, Block Medical Officer, and medical officers from JKHS. Their participation highlighted the importance of the event in fostering innovation and excellence in surgical practices.

Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, the organizing secretary, emphasized the conference’s crucial role in advancing surgical techniques and patient safety.

“Today marks the beginning of an important journey where we come together to enhance our collective expertise in surgical care. We are eager to explore a wide range of topics and interactive sessions designed to broaden our knowledge and skills,”

The two-day conference features an extensive agenda, including detailed presentations on cutting-edge medical techniques, case studies, and best practices in surgical safety. Key sessions cover advanced topics such as stapled haemorrhoidopexy, enhanced techniques for inguinal hernia repair (eTEP), and innovative approaches to thoracic trauma management. These presentations aim to offer valuable insights and practical knowledge to refine surgical methods and improve patient care strategies.

In addition to the presentations, the conference includes a medical quiz designed to test and enhance participants’ knowledge. The quiz, along with postgraduate quizzes and poster presentations, highlights the contributions of postgraduate students and their innovative solutions to surgical challenges. These activities are intended to stimulate intellectual exchange and inspire the next generation of medical professionals.

A key focus of the conference was on “Safe Surgical practice” and during the conference other issues regarding the need for significant upgrades at SDH Kupwara. Future plans include acquiring advanced surgical equipment, modernizing operating theatres, establishing a superspecialty facility, creating a minimal access unit, and enhancing modular theatres and human resources were thoroughly discussed, aiming to elevate the quality of care provided at SDH Kupwara.

Overall, the conference has been a tremendous success. SDH Kupwara remains committed to delivering high-quality surgical care and advancing medical practices through continuous education and research.
