BARAMULLA : On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina conducted a comprehensive visit to flood-prone areas including Babagund, Pazalpora, Gonipora, and Behrampira.
The visit was aimed to address the escalating risks posed by heavy rainfall, particularly the rising water levels in Nallah Pohru, potentially leading to flood-like situations.
During the visit, ADC Raina engaged with local residents to understand their concerns regarding the increasing water levels and emphasized the need for proactive measures, including securing boats for potential rescue operations. Instructions were given to explore options for boat availability to ensure readiness for any emergencies.
Furthermore, discussions were held regarding reinforcing the embankments of Nallah Pohru, with the Executive Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) directed to provide sandbags for strengthening the embankments. This initiative aims to enhance the resilience of the area to potential flooding and minimize risks to the community.
ADC urged residents to exercise caution and prioritize safety by avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities. Collaborative efforts between authorities and residents were highlighted as essential for safeguarding lives and properties against the adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri, Javed Ahmad Rather, undertook a thorough visit of landslide-affected areas including Boniyar, Nambla, Paranpila, Noorkha, and nearby regions.
Interactions with residents focused on identifying immediate challenges and priority areas for intervention.
Emphasizing the importance of coordinated response efforts, SDM reassured affected residents of the administration’s commitment to providing support and assistance in the aftermath of landslides. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of all community members.
