BANDIPORA : The District Legal Services Authority, (DLSA) Bandipora in coordination with Tehsil Legal Services Authority Bandipora and in collaboration with Government Boys Secondary School, Ahamshareef, Bandipora today conducted an Awareness programme on ‘World Day against Child Labour’ with the theme ‘Let’s act on our commitments: End Child Labour,’ here.
The programme held under the supervision of Chairman DLSA Bandipora, Amit Sharma and guidance of Secretary DLSA Bandipora, Nusrat Ali Hakak, focused on to generate awareness about the need to end child labour and encourage individuals and other stakeholders to take action against child labour and end it entirely.
Resource persons for the day Adv. Nawaz-ul-Haq (Assistant LADC Bandipora) and Adv. Aijaz Ahmad said Child Labour is a serious problem and World Day against Child Labour addresses this issue. Child Labour robs children of having a ‘normal’ childhood. They are made to work in exploitative conditions that can potentially be dangerous.
They expressed concern about the increase in number of child laborers throughout the globe and measures to eradicate this menace of child labour from the society, and also stressed upon the legal aspects in dealing with children who are affected by Child Labour.
Adv. Aijaz Ahmad also covered the provisions of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. He said the Act aims to suppress any form of child abuse in the name of hazardous employment of children who have not completed 14 years of age and to prohibit children’s engagement in dangerous occupations and processes and regulate the conditions of non-precarious works and processes.
He also spoke on section 12 (c) of Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, under which a child who has to file or defend a case is entitled to legal services and it is the duty of various Legal Service Institutions to provide free legal aid to them towards speedy disposal of his/her case.
The programme also saw interactive sessions between the resource person and the stakeholders where various issues and its mitigation methods were discussed and deliberated upon.
The said program was attended by Principal Govt. Boys Secondary School Ahamshareef alongside teaching and non teaching staff, students at large, officials of DLSC/TLSC Bandipora and Para Legal Volunteers.
