The closure, initiated on February 15, 2024, was prompted by heavy snowfall in the Kargil region, disrupting essential supply routes and isolating communities.

The timely reopening brings relief to residents just in time for the Holy month of Ramadan, as they await crucial supplies and provisions.

Efforts to reopen the pass were spearheaded by the Border Road Organization’s Project Vijayak and Project Beacon, whose tireless snow clearance operations finally triumphed over the formidable mountainous terrain.

With the pass now accessible to traffic, albeit restricted to 4X4 vehicles, communities along the route can breathe a sigh of relief.

The resumption of traffic heralds the arrival of fresh vegetables and essential commodities, alleviating concerns over shortages and ensuring a more comfortable Ramadan observance.

The reopening of the Zojila Pass after a record 35-day closure represents a remarkable achievement in the face of adversity.
