Cold Condition Intensifies As Night Temperature Plummets In Kashmir

Srinagar : Night temperature plummeted all across the Kashmir valley triggering severe cold weather conditions with Srinagar recording a low of -5.1C on Monday, officials said.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has predicted dry weather till January 21 with a chance of light snow over the isolated higher reaches in between January 15, 16 and 21 over the Jammu and Kashmir.
The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir was -5.1C against the -3.0C the previous night. It was 3.1C below the seasonal average for this time of year, the Met office said.
Pahalgam remained the coldest place in Kashmir valley with minimum temperature further plunged to -8.4C on Monday against the -6.2C recorded on Sunday. This was 2.5C below normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the period.
The ski resort of Gulmarg also witnessed a significant fall in the minimum temperature and recorded at -6.5C against -5.6C a day ago and this was, however, 1.3?C above normal for the tourist resort of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for the day.
The picturesque Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district plunged to a low of -9.8C against -6.5C recorded on Sunday.
Kupwara recorded a low of -5.5C against the -4.0C on the previous night and this was 3.0C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district in north Kashmir during this period of the season.
Kokernag in south Kashmir with a marginal improvement recorded at -3.4C on Monday against the -3.9C recorded on Saturday and the Qazigund dipped to a low of -6.4C against the -4.0C which was 3.4C below normal for the gateway to Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway during the period, the MeT office said.
