Cold Wave Continues To Tighten Its Grip Over Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Night temperatures in Kashmir continue to dip, with all locations recording temperatures well below the freezing point, officials said.

The cold wave over many stations is likely to persist during the next three days.
According to the meteorological centre, Srinagar recorded an overnight minimum temperature of minus 4.6C, a departure of -3.4C from the normal for this time of year.
The tourist resort of Sonamarg in the Ganderbal district of central Kashmir recorded a bone-chilling minimum overnight temperature of -9.6 degree Celsius, making it the coldest place in the region.
The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir experienced another chilly night, with temperatures plummeting to -7.6C, which is -5C below normal.
Pahalgam, a tourist spot in south Kashmir famous for its picturesque landscape of meadows, also saw a sharp decline with a minimum overnight temperature recorded at -8.4C.
Met said that the border area of Kupwara recorded -4.7C, while Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir stood at -5.6C and -4.2C, respectively.
The Jammu Division, while relatively warmer, still reported noticeable dips in night temperatures. Jammu city registered 3.6C, which is -5.2C below the normal, while Banihal recorded 4.9C.
The Met predicted mainly dry and cold weather in the coming days.
